The Mission of the Center for Aging and Health

The UNC Center for Aging and Health is an interdisciplinary group of professionals dedicated to identifying and meeting the challenges of an aging society.

Our mission is excellence in promoting all aspects of health, reducing disability and enhancing independence in older people. The vision is to benefit mankind by becoming a state, national and international resource through a unique affiliation between North Carolina providers, professionals and academic programs which will provide preeminent leadership and excellence in aging research, teaching, community service and clinical care.

The UNC Center for Aging and Health is structured to leverage expertise and resources for the elderly people as a liaison with the extensive regional systems of care in North Carolina. The goal is to refine care delivery systems and to shape the effective behaviors of care providers, policy makers, regulators, civic and educational leaders, and the people of North Carolina to produce exemplary approaches to health and well-being. To meet this goal, The UNC Center for Aging and Health works to develop leadership in Geriatric medicine, establish multidisciplinary education training programs, facilitate research activities, and strengthen relationships with community groups and others who share our interest in the well-being of older persons.
