What drew you to UNC?

I had friends in medical school that had relationships with medical students at UNC who vouched for the entire institution having a positive workplace mentality. On my interview day, I saw the interactions amongst residents, attendings, and other staff alike, which showed me the kind of welcoming environment the program fostered. That’s when I knew this would be an awesome place to train, not to mention the depth of clinical experiences offered!

What do you love most about the Triangle?

The food. My wife’s career revolves around interacting with the food scene and marketing for various restaurants, which started as a hobby, but has transformed into a fun, tasty career. I’ve traveled around a lot of different areas within the Triangle, trying different foods, and found there is still yet much to discover. Being from CA, I wanted to live in a place that offered good food and the ability to explore various cuisines, and I think this location offers solid options if you’re willing to venture!

What are your career aspirations?

After residency, I’d like to complete a fellowship, likely chronic pain, before deciding what setting to work in, whether that be academics or private practice. Some day I hope to make it back out to California and be closer to family!

What is your go-to fun fact?

Once ate 70 pieces of sushi in one sitting at an all-you-can-eat as part of a challenge from friends.

If I weren’t an anesthesiologist, what would you be?

Restauranteur.
