Mark Hylton, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology within the Community Division of UNC Anesthesiology. He joined the practice in 2020 shortly after finishing residency and has the best of both worlds. He gets to practice at UNC Health Wayne, a community hospital located in Goldsboro, NC, while having contacts, developing relationships, and establishing resources within our academic practice. Dr. Hylton provides care to all types of patients, ranging from young to old. He employs multimodal anesthesia techniques, uses regional anesthesia techniques, and strives to provide high quality, patient-centered care. He has specialty training in ultrasound for vascular access, POCUS, and enhanced recovery after surgery pathways.

Dr. Hylton is a huge patient advocate with a strong interest in quality improvement and physician leadership. He currently serves as the Vice-Chair of Anesthesiology at UNC Health Wayne and was recently elected to serve a 3-year term as a leader of the Medical Staff. He is currently the Secretary/Treasurer for 2024, will be Vice-President in 2025, and President of the Medical Staff in 2026. Dr. Hylton also serves on other hospital and health system committees including Pharmacy and Therapeutics and Care Redesign/ERAS.

When he is not providing clinical care or in a meeting, Dr. Hylton enjoys spending time with his family, riding his Peloton (@jmhyltonmd), and playing pickleball or golf.
