From our nursing anesthetists, to our pre-care and peri-operative anesthesia care nurses, to our CVTICU, NP and nurses in specialized anesthesia care, UNC Anesthesiology celebrates all of our excellent nurses who are vital contributors to quality and safe anesthesia care delivery at UNC Medical Center and across UNC Health!

UNC Anesthesiology Interim Chair and Professor of Anesthesiology Anthony N. Passannante, MD, noted: “Please join me in celebrating National Nurses Week this week, from May 6th to 12th. There are 28 million nurses working worldwide, which makes nurses the largest component of the healthcare workforce. I agree with the many who have said that nurses really ‘put the care’ in healthcare. We are fortunate to have many excellent nurses in various roles within UNC Anesthesiology, ensuring that our patients get the best care possible.”

Critical Care Division Chief Duncan McLean, MD, is  Medical Director of UNC Medical Center’s Cardiothoracic and Vascular Intensive Care Unit – CVTICU and Medical Director of its Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider Support program CCAPPS. He works with many UNC Anesthesiology nurses, of whom many care for critically ill patients in UNCMC’s CVTICU.

“Our critical care nurses are the core of our mission.  I am so impressed by, and proud of their skill, knowledge, and dedication to excellent care of our cardiothoracic and vascular surgical patients.”
