Tar Heel Holocaust Stories: Yom Hashoah

April 6, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Observed in April is Yom HaShoah, a day in which Jews commemorate the monstrous tragedy of the Holocaust. NC Hillel will present “Tar Heel Holocaust Stories,” a program featuring UNC students who are the descendants of Holocaust survivors, sharing their family stories. The event provides a meaningful and intimate way to address the implications of the Holocaust through discussions amongst students, faculty, staff and community members.

UNC Hillel will mark Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) with a program featuring UNC students who are the descendants of Holocaust survivors speaking about their family’s stories from World War II. Based on the Israeli program Zikaron Basalon, literally meaning “remembrance in the living room,” Tar Heel Holocaust Stories will offer a new, meaningful and intimate way to commemorate the Holocaust and address its implications through discussions among students, faculty, staff, and community members. While we can’t be together in person, we invite you into our virtual living room as we hear testimony, create space to express our grief and engage in conversation.

Students with access to our building in Chapel Hill are invited to bring a piece of this virtual program home by doing a contactless pick up of a Yahrtzeit Candle (memorial candle) that they can light during the program.
