Congratulations to Erica Sparkenbaugh, Assistant Professor in the UNC Department of Medicine Hematology, and member of the Blood Research Center.  She has been awarded a five year, $2 million R01 grant from NIH-NHLBI beginning January 2021. The goal of this project is to evaluate whether activation of beneficial PAR1 signaling can attenuate the chronic pro-coagulant state of sickle cell disease, with a goal of reducing vaso-occlusive crisis, acute chest syndrome, and end-organ damage.
