TRAINEE APPOINTMENT AND REAPPOINTMENT PROCEDURES

Join the Cell Biology and Physiology (CBP) Curriculum

Students must be members of the CBP Curriculum to be eligible for the CSIP Training Program. All students enter the CBP Curriculum through the Biological and Biomedical Sciences Program (BBSP) at UNC Chapel Hill. More information about the BBSP program and how to apply can be found on the BBSP website.

Apply for CSIP

All 1st and 2nd year students in the CBP Curriculum are eligible for the CSIP Training Program. The 2024-2025 application. The 2024-2025 application cycle is closed.

  • A call for applications is sent out to students by CSIP administration in late April, after 1st year students have officially selected a dissertation lab.
    • 2024-2025 application cycle: First call for applications was April 12, 2024.
  • Potential CSIP Trainees complete the application with support from their dissertation advisor. Completed applications are due to CSIP administration in the middle of May.
    • 2024-2025 application cycle: Applications due May 10, 2024 at 5 PM.
  • CSIP trainees are eligible for a maximum of two years of funding.
    • Reappointment applications are processed as competitive renewals with new applicants.
    • Reappointment is contingent on the fulfillment of the requirements of the initial appointment and the continued fit with the CSIP Training Program.
    • Reappointment requires a new application, with a supplement inclusion of the student’s most recent IDP.
  • All applications are reviewed by the CSIP Steering Committee or an ad-hoc selection committee of faculty.
  • Accepted trainees are notified no later than June 30th. The CSIP Training program runs from July 1st to the following June 30th each cycle.
    • Trainees and their dissertation advisors are orientated on the expectations of both the trainee and advisor.
