About

Dr. Davy-Mendez is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases. He is a clinical epidemiologist working to improve the health of persons living with HIV. His work leverages observational studies to inform HIV care. He has experience leading studies in electronic health records-based clinical cohorts and cohort collaborations, including the UNC CFAR HIV Clinical Cohort, CFAR Network of Integrated Clinical Systems (CNICS), North American AIDS Cohort Collaboration on Research and Design (NA-ACCORD), and the Kaiser Permanente Northern California health system. His research spans ART effectiveness, health care utilization, and comorbid health conditions. This includes studies on virologic failure rates on first- and second-line ART, trends in hospitalization rates and causes, and treatment and outcomes of substance use in clinical populations. His objective is to identify areas for care improvement in the context of effective ART availability, aging of persons with HIV, and the burden of substance use and medical comorbidities such as cardiometabolic conditions.
