About

Tommy Green was born in Oxford, North Carolina, but was raised in Durham North Carolina where he now resides. At the age of 22, he was sentenced to 11 to 14 years for his part in an Armed Robbery and served 11 years and 8 months. Tommy has resided inside some of North Carolina’s most dangerous prisons. Once released, his life “really started”. He found himself bouncing around from mediocre job-to-job making most of his income from freelancing private security for local clubs and small celebrity venues. Within a year, Tommy found himself working as a parking lot attendant for a large company with numerous contracts around Raleigh, North Carolina. Within 9 months, he became an Assistant Operations Manager of that company which was sold for 20 million in 2018. During that same year, Tommy was offered the position of Community Health Worker (CHW) for Orange County Health Department where he is now the Lead CHW for the North Carolina Formerly Incarcerated Transition Program. Recently, he became an Adjunct Instructor for UNC Family Medicine. Tommy co-owns Success While In Transition (SWIT) that helps men and women become successful in their post incarceration transition and people battling recovery from substance abuse. Tommy also presides as Co-Director of a nonprofit that provides formerly incarcerated Peer Support Specialist to help other formerly incarcerated individuals in their transition back into society. He has been featured in the Washington Post, Health Affairs Magazine, and two local radio stations for the work he has done and continues to do for the NC FIT program.
