Genetic counselors are key partners in precision medicine and genomic advances which span the life stages of patients at UNC. UNC is fortunate to have ~ 20 genetic counselors with 10 in the Department of Genetics! Our counselors are working across the spectrum of genetic healthcare and research. They are striving to increase community engagement and patient access, building bridges between research, policy, technologies and the families they impact.
US News and World Report featured a story last year that celebrated the contributions of Genetic Counselors and highlighted the fact that 95% of Genetic Counselors are women. The counselors in our department include Stefanie Finch, Kate Foreman, Katie Garbarini, Jennifer Goldstein, Tracy Grant, Kristy Lee, Ashlynn Messmore, Julianne O’Daniel, Myra Roche and Cecile Skrzynia.
