Department of Genetics faculty, postdocs, students and collaborators published 9 papers during February 12th – 25th, 2023.

All six basic science departments rank in the top 10 in National Institutes of Health funding for federal fiscal year 2022, according to a new report by the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research, and 11 clinical departments rank in the top 30. The UNC Department of Genetics is ranked first among peer public schools of medicine.

Christoph Rau, PhD (Assistant Professor, Genetics) has been awarded a new R01 grant from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute’s (NHLBI) Stephen I. Katz Early Stage Investigator Research Program for his application titled “Elucidating the Role of Multinuclearity in Healthy and Diseased Mammalian Cardiomyocytes”. 

PhD candidate Jamshaid Shahir in the Jeremy Purvis lab shares about his research on how to heal a broken heart, a path that is positioning him for a role in the sciences at the frontier of his discipline and for a career in computational biology.

NIH/AHRQ/NIOSH released a notice on February 1, 2023 to extend the special exception for post-submission material to COVID-19 pandemic to include applications submitted for August/October 2023 Council (NOT-OD-23-066, which begins with applications submitted for the January 25, 2023 due date.
