Difference Matters is an event that gives people with disabilities or caregivers/healthcare professionals that take care of people with disabilities a platform to discuss their experiences living with these disabilities or treating them.

Spring 2024 Speakers

Katrina Steinsultz is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Radiologic Sciences at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  She has been a Radiologic Technologist for over 20 years, with certifications in radiography and mammography.  She holds a Master in Administration with a Health Sciences emphasis and a Master in Public Health.  She has been proudly hard-of-hearing since birth.  When not advocating or spreading awareness about individuals with disabilities, she is spending time with her gardening, cooking, hiking, and with family.
Alana Epstein is a full-time graduate student in the audiology doctoral program at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. She received a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences and Psychology from Furman University. Ms. Epstein is a LEND Audiology Trainee at the Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities, UNC School of Medicine.
Courtney Greene is a full-time graduate student in the audiology doctoral program at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. She received a Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders with a minor in American Sign Language from Appalachian State University. Ms. Greene is a LEND Audiology Trainee at the Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities, UNC School of Medicine.
Olivia Zimmerman is a full-time graduate student in the audiology doctoral program at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. She received a Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Northwestern University. Ms. Zimmerman is a LEND trainee at the Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities and is pursuing a certificate in developmental disabilities.

Difference Matters is aimed to open up dialogue between students and faculty about the challenges that people living with disabilities face and the challenges healthcare providers face as well. This event is critical to our club as it allows students to learn more about what their future patients are going through and learn how to be better providers in accordance. 

We would love to hear your input about the event.
