Laura Korb Ferris, MD, PhD

Laura Korb Ferris, MD, PhD, has been appointed the Clayton E. Wheeler, Jr. Distinguished Professor as well as chair of the UNC Department of Dermatology. Ferris will begin her work in the role on Oct. 14.

Ferris joins UNC-Chapel Hill from her current role as a clinical vice chair of the Department of Dermatology at the University of Pittsburgh, where she also is a professor of dermatology. She also serves as the director of clinical trials at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and the UPMC chief of community and ambulatory dermatology.

Ferris completed her Dermatology residency and Investigative Dermatology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh. She earned her PhD in immunology at Johns Hopkins Medical School and her MD from the University of Maryland. She practices general dermatology with a focus on skin cancer and psoriasis as well as other inflammatory diseases. She has served as PI on more than 130 clinical trials in her field.
