The Senior Associate Dean for Administration (AD) serves the School of Medicine as the institutional authority on all aspects of administration and business practices, reporting to the Executive Leadership Team. The Senior AD has both staff and line responsibilities: staff support and consultation with the Executive Leadership Team and the team of Vice Deans; and line supervision of the School’s Offices of Business Operations, Human Resources, IT, Space & Planning, Professional Service Contracts & Affiliations, and Compliance & Research Integrity. The Senior AD serves as the School’s lead on broad administrative issues and will often represent the Executive Leadership Team to her/his direct reports. The Senior AD generally works behind the scenes to solve problems, mediate disputes, and deal with issues before they are escalated to the Executive Leadership Team.

The ideal candidate will have had experience in a peer institution academic health center, but this is not an essential prerequisite for success in the Senior AD position. Candidate should exhibit qualities of leadership and peer recognition in appropriate professional organizations, such as the Group on Business Affairs or the Group on Institutional Planning of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). At least 7 years of a combination of experience and education, working in a position of substantial administrative responsibility is expected. The Senior AD must possess superior verbal and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal behaviors, and the capacity to inspire confidence in his or her reasoning and decision-making.
