Students from UNC Wilmington collaborated with community stakeholders as well as members of the Health Equity Research Advisory Council (HERAC) to create new community food and meal resource calendars that will help residents in Southeastern North Carolina connect with vital resources.

The resources will be shared by teams from the Cape Fear Clinic, Cape Fear Homeless Continuum of Care, and various organizations partnering with students at UNC Wilmington.

The students, Caresse Brunson and My Ahn “Sunny” Phu, are working to help address social determinants of health related to food insecurity. The team collaborated with stakeholders in Southeastern North Carolina to launch the calendars, which are user-friendly and updated with the information about available food and meal resources for the community.

The HERAC is composed of research leaders from Novant Health and the UNC School of Medicine. It is part of the Research Advisory Council, a joint committee composed of leaders from Novant Health, Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center, UNC Health and the UNC School of Medicine.
