**REQUIRED** Before Graduation

  1. You must complete a Qualtrics survey concerning tickets. Each graduate is guaranteed 5 tickets. We will do our best to honor requests for additional tickets. https://unc.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9ZVefsFWtqPnBye
    1. Each guest who enters Memorial Hall will need a ticket (including small children).
    2. For anyone who does NOT have a ticket, overflow seating will be located in Gerrard Hall, next door to Memorial Hall. The ceremony will be live streamed in Gerrard and online.
    3. You can pick up tickets at the Graduation Rehearsal on May 9.
  2. Please turn in the following items to the Office of Student Affairs (1001 Bondurant Hall) during office hours (Monday-Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM) by Wednesday, May 8. You may also drop these items off when you pick up your tickets at rehearsal.

    2. UNC PHOTO ID BADGE
    3. LOCKERS: Please remove all possessions and leave the lock.
    4. Turn in scrubs to the scrub machine. DO NOT BRING THESE TO BONDURANT 1001.
  1. NOTE: Any UNPAID processing or replacement fee assessed by not returning any of the above items will automatically result in a HOLD being placed on your account. This means we will not be able to process requests for transcripts, diplomas, residency on-boarding paperwork, verification of graduation, or enrollment.
  2. Please complete this data agreement form: DATA CONSENT FORM. YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE YOUR TICKETS UNTIL THIS IS COMPLETE.
  3. Required Exit Loan Counseling – If you have received Stafford loans, you must complete the exit loan counseling session. Link will be on your “To Do” list in ConnectCarolina a few weeks before graduation.

Graduation Rehearsal May 9, 2024

*Rehearsal is MANDATORY. If you cannot attend, please contact Scarlett Parnell (scarlett_parnell@med.unc.edu)

ARRIVE: Memorial Hall (114 E. Cameron Ave.) on Thursday, May 9 at 9:00AM. The class picture will be taken at 9:15AM and we will begin rehearsal at 9:30 AM. Rehearsal will last until 12:00PM.

Wear school colors or neutral colors for the picture.

We will rehearse the procession into the theater from outside. Students will line up in alphabetical order by rows. Your line leaders will be holding up signs indicating the row that you will be in.

You were asked to share pronunciation of your name in the Qualtrics survey to request tickets. Please pay attention to how your name is pronounced at the rehearsal. Contact Scarlett Parnell (scarlett_parnell@med.unc.edu) for any changes.

If one of your classmates is not at rehearsal and is seated in your row, please leave that seat vacant. Your marshal will provide additional instructions.

The picnic will take place at the large picnic shelter, and we will serve a barbecue lunch! Graduates, family and friends are welcome! Your MS4 co-presidents will send a Qualtrics survey for attendance.

Hooding Ceremony May 11, 2024

*No jewelry/accessories/flair should be showing outside of your regalia*
*Memorial Hall tickets are GENERAL ADMISSION*

Please ask your guests to remember to remain seated at the end of the ceremony for the stage participants and graduates to recess out of the hall.

GUESTS SHOULD MEET THEIR GRADUATE OUTSIDE OF MEMORIAL HALL AND NOT IN THE AISLES OR LOBBY OF THE HALL.

Updates for Guests

  • As a reminder, all guests (including lap babies and children) must have a ticket. Guests without a ticket are invited to watch the livestream in Gerrard Hall next to Memorial Hall.
  • The university has issued additional policies for guests at all department ceremonies. For a full list, visit https://www.unc.edu/posts/2024/05/06/spring-commencement-2024-update-one-cards-clear-bag-policy-prohibited-items/.
    • Clear Bag Policy: Guests are encouraged to leave all bags at home, but the following items will be allowed into Commencement venues:
      • Any clear plastic or vinyl bag no larger than 12″ x 6″ x 12″, including gallon freezer bags.
      • Small clutch purses no larger than 4.5″ x 6.5″.
      • Necessary medical items following inspection at entry gates.
      • Up to two unopened 20 ounce or smaller bottles of water per person and empty drink containers that can be filled up at drinking fountains.
      • The Kenan Stadium Policy for bags provides additional information for what will be permitted at Memorial and Gerrard Halls.
      • All permissible bags and containers are subject to search upon entry.
    • Prohibited Items: Alcoholic beverages, artificial noise makers, baby seats, large bags, balloons, banners, flags and signs (larger than 8 ½” x 11”), signs on sticks or other devices, beach balls, coolers or containers, explosives, fireworks, folding chairs, food and beverages (except sealed plastic water bottles), illegal drugs, laser pointers, pets (except service animals), strollers (non-collapsible), umbrellas, weapons of any kind, any other item that in the judgment of management staff poses a safety hazard or detracts from the ability of others to enjoy the event.

No. Please communicate this to your guests and keep your phone hidden and silenced. Note that we will have a professional photographer to take pictures of each student as they are recognized and hooded, along with plenty of group and class pictures.
The Memorial Hall will open and begin seating guests at 8:00AM. The ceremony will begin promptly at 9:00AM.

Memorial Hall is general admission; seating is first come, first served. Other than a designated area for wheelchair accessibility, there will be no reserved seats.

Yes, the Memorial Hall stage team will live-stream the ceremony. There will be a placeholder on our website that will go live when the ceremony begins.
Overflow seating is located next door to Memorial Hall in Gerrard Hall. This location provides ample seating and live streaming of the ceremony.
There is no parking at Memorial Hall. Guests with mobility concerns can be dropped off in front of the hall along with an escort.

On-Campus parking

The Cobb Deck | 10-min walk to MH

  • Entrances located on Country Club Drive between South Road and Raleigh Street and on Raleigh Street between Country Club Drive and South Road: available for on-campus parking after 5 PM on weekdays. There is no charge to park there, but spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The UNC Visitor’s Lot | 20-min walk to MH

  • Located at the corner of South Road/Hwy 54 and Country Club Drive, beside Carolina Friends Chapel Hill. This lot is open to the public after 5 PM and on weekends on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Venable Lot | 6-min walk to MH

  • Located at the corner of South Road and South Columbia Street

There are more than 850 off-street parking spaces within the Town of Chapel Hill downtown area. The cost for these lots varies by location. More information can be found on the Town of Chapel Hill website.

After Graduation FAQ’s

TRANSCRIPTS

If you matriculated into the School of Medicine prior to Fall 2014, your transcript will come from the UNC School of Medicine. If a final transcript is needed, please submit a consent form with a $7 payment. (Consent form: https://www.med.unc.edu/ome/registrar/request-for-release-of-information/).

*Note: Final transcripts are only available after graduation. After graduation on May 11, 2024, you are considered an alumni and will need to pay for any transcripts from that point forward.

If you matriculated into the School of Medicine after Fall 2014, your transcript will be processed through a vendor that UNC’s Main Campus Registrar’s Office uses. Please follow this link to order a transcript: https://registrar.unc.edu/academic-services/transcripts-certifications/.

HOLDS

If you have a hold on your account, we will not be able to process your residency paperwork, final transcript or any additional documents until the hold has been rectified.

DIPLOMAS

Diploma Pickup – Bring photo ID to Justin on the 3rd floor Roper Hall on May 13-15 from 9-12 and 2-5.  If you would like to give someone else permission to pick up your diploma, please send an email to SOMRegistrar@med.unc.edu.  All diplomas not picked up by 5pm on May 15th will be mailed later in the summer to your mailing address listed in Connect Carolina.  As a reminder, if you have a hold on your account, you will NOT be able to receive your diploma until it is resolved.
