Ria Dancel, MD, FAPP

Ria Dancel, MD, FAPP, associate professor of medicine and pediatrics in the division of hospital medicine, has received a 2019 Pilot Innovation Award from the UNC Center for Health Innovation.  To date, faculty physicians in the department of medicine have received 10 Pilot Innovation Awards since the Center introduced the awards in 2013.

Dancel is principal investigator for “Pursuing the Quadruple Aim through Pocket Point-of-Care Ultrasound.” Catherine Coe, MD, assistant professor of medicine in the department of family medicine, is co-PI of the project.  The team will develop and implement a standardized Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) elective for residents in family medicine, internal medicine, and pediatrics, which will pave the way for further widespread, interdepartmental and interdisciplinary efforts throughout UNC Health Care, and a more robust curriculum for the UNC School of Medicine.

The Center for Health Innovations sought proposals from employees for innovations across a spectrum of areas including care delivery, new technology, advanced analytics, and more. To learn more about other winning teams, visit the UNC School of Medicine and UNC Health Care Newsroom.
