  • Erica Sparkenbaugh, PhD, and Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics fellow Robert Lee, PhD, have been selected to receive Scholar Awards from the American Society of Hematology’s (ASH). Sparkenbaugh received a $125,000 award to support her research into the mechanisms of thrombin generation and end-organ failure in sickle cell disease. Read more.

  • Silvia M Kreda, PhD, won the NC Biotech Translational Research Grant with UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy’s Anthony Hickey, PhD. The project, “Nucleic Acid Aerosol Delivery by a Novel Evaporation-Condensation Method from a Coated Filament,” was awarded $100K.

Division of Rheumatology, Allergy and Immunology

  • Amanda Nelson, MD, MSCR, RhMSUS, received a $365K, two-year grant from the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases to study advanced methodologies of osteoarthritis phenotyping. Read more.
