Division of Hematology

  • Erica Sparkenbaugh, MD, was awarded a five-year, $2 million R01 grant from NIH-NHLBI to evaluate whether activation of beneficial PAR1 signaling can attenuate the chronic pro-coagulant state of sickle cell disease.

Division of Nephrology and Hypertension

  • Thomas Hostetter, MD, and Lori O’Brien, PhD, (Cell Biology and Physiology), were awarded a pilot grant from the Renal Research Institute for “Discovering the Stimulus to Renal Compensatory Growth.”

  • Shetal Patel, MD, received the “Lung Cancer Initiative of NC” award for “Metabolic reprogramming of the tumor microenvironment, to enhance immunotherapy in lung cancer.“

Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine

  • Carla Ribeiro, MD, was awarded a grant from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for “Evaluation of IRE1beta as a Novel Target for CF Airway Mucus Production.”
