  • Tracy L. Rose, MD MPH, received an NCI K08 grant for the project “Selective histone deacetylase inhibition with entinostat to enhance the anti-tumor immune response to immune checkpoint inhibition in urothelial cancer.”

  • Jenny Flythe, MD, MPH, received an award for $116,625 from the NIH National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), to conduct a pilot feasibility study of loop diuretics among individuals receiving hemodialysis. Learn more.
  • Flythe also received an R01 award for “QT prolonging medications and sudden cardiac death among individuals on Hemodialysis.”

Division of Rheumatology, Allergy and Immunology

  • Saira Sheikh, MD, and Nigel Key, MD, ChB, CRCP, with local biotech company EpiCypher, have received a National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases grant to develop and commercialize a novel blood-based assay that can be used to study and diagnose a range of diseases, from rheumatoid arthritis and lupus to cancer-associated venous thromboembolism.The total award to EpiCypher® is $3m over three years, with just under a $1m sub-award to UNC.
