Honey M. Jones, DNP, ACNP-BC, MBA, FAANP, FCCM

Honey M. Jones, DNP, ACNP-BC, MBA, FAANP, FCCM, Assistant Professor in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, has been awarded funding from the Clinical Investment Committee for the “Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider Support Program” (CCAPPS), developed in collaboration with members of the Advanced Practice Provider Center‘s critical care workgroup.

The CCAPPS program will standardize onboarding for newly-hired critical care APPs and offer a pathway for APP professional development. It includes a four-tiered structure of clinical support for new hires with varying levels of critical care experience. The program incorporates a rigorous competency-based training program for new graduates. It also offers opportunities for more experienced APPs who are interested in professional advancement. Ultimately, the program will promote APP engagement, improve retention/recruitment, reduce costs of attrition, and optimize APP productivity.

Jones will work with Betsy Shilliday, PharmD, APP Center Director; Meena Bhatia, MD, Vice Chair of Clinical Operations in the Department of Anesthesiology; and Katie Hanlon, MMS, PA-C, Assistant Professor of Cardiothoracic Critical Care, Department of Anesthesiology, to implement the program.

“This is a shared victory for critical care APPs across the hospital,” said Jones who is APP Clinical Lead for the MICU. “ICU and ED physician leadership, department ACAs and APP Center support staff were all champions for this project.”
