Paul Mounsey is a Sewell Family/McAllister Distinguished Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology. He leads the cardiac arrhythmia and electrophysiology service.

What is your clinical expertise?

Management of all forms of heart arrhythmias, both with catheter ablation and implantable cardiac rhythm management devices.

What current project or initiative at UNC are you involved in that you are excited about?

The SUDDEN study. This is an epidemiologic study of out of hospital sudden unexpected death which we have begun in North Carolina but are expanding regionally and eventually nationally.

What do you love most about Chapel Hill/UNC?

College basketball!

Where is an interesting place you have traveled?

Bolivia in South America. We did a trip to implant permanent pacemakers into an underserved population in one of Bolivia’s poorest cities. Culturally it was very interesting, and the work was fulfilling.

How do you like to spend your free time?

Hiking, running, and kayaking
