What is your clinical expertise?

Pulmonary Medicine, with a focus on Cystic Fibrosis, non-CF bronchiectasis, mycobacterial lung infectious disease, and lung transplant medicine.

Tell us about your current role in the Department of Medicine.

As well as my involvement in the above clinical interests, I enjoy clinical / translational research in the above diseases, and collaborate outside UNC with like minded experts on developing consensus statements, clinical trials, and future research concepts. I also enjoy teaching the next generation of physicians from medical students to residents to fellows, and am actively involved in curriculum development, and several teaching initiatives at the School of Medicine.

What current project or initiative at UNC are you involved in that you are excited about?

Together with some close colleagues, and several other affiliated experts in other UNC Divisions and Departments, we are in the process of forming a Bronchiectasis / Mycobacterial Lung Infection Center at UNC, which will be one of very few of its kind in North America. At UNC, decades of clinical expertise, research and patient experience can be brought to bear on a neglected, under-served population of patients from around the state and country, to improve quality of life, and provide best practice, value based care.

What do you love most about Chapel Hill/UNC?

Its eclectic population, liberal culture, and great climate.

Where is an interesting place you have traveled?

Vietnam, without a doubt. It’s a beautiful place, with a diverse and interesting culture, and with really friendly people.

How do you like to spend your free time?

Pick-up tennis games at the tennis club, with a great bunch of men and women from around Chapel Hill, and Yoga at Franklin Street Yoga for balance of mind and body.
