The UNC Institute for Global Health and Infectious Diseases (UNC IGHID) has been awarded a three-year grant (US$ 3M) to launch a large epidemiological study of Lassa fever in Liberia by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI). The study is part of a five West African nation project to better understand the incidence and risks for this viral hemorrhagic fever endemic to this region in preparation for future vaccine trials. A team of Liberian investigators from Phebe Hospital and the National Public Health Institute of Liberia along with UNC researchers will jointly conduct this study.
