Blaire Wendlant, MD, MSc

Blaire Wendlandt, MD, MSc, a fellow in the division of pulmonary and critical care medicine, has received a Weill Research Grant from the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM). Named for SCCM founder and its first president, Max Harry Weil, MD, PhD, MCCM, the SCCM-Weil Research Grant is awarded to SCCM members as a stepping-stone to carry out basic, translational, or clinical research.

Wendlant’s research topic is “PTSD in ICU Family Caregivers: Trajectories, Risk, and Association With Patient Health Outcomes.”

“When I started clinical rotations as a third-year medical student, I found that sitting and talking to patients and their families was one of the parts of my workday that I liked best,” says Wendlant in a SCCM blog post.  “As I moved through my training and into residency, I figured out that I loved being in the ICU and knew that I would pursue fellowship training in pulmonary and critical care medicine. Given that the ICU environment can be especially stressful for patients and their families, it was sort of a natural progression that I developed an interest in ICU family caregiver emotional distress.”
