Over one hundred women gathered at the William and Ida Friday Center on Saturday, February 22, for education and a discussion about cardiovascular health.
The Sixth Annual Women’s Heart Symposium provided participants with the knowledge and resources to improve their health outcomes. They also learn from physicians and other providers how heart attack symptoms can be different from men.
“Women are at a higher risk of heart disease as they get older,” said Paula Miller, MD, professor of medicine and director of UNC Cardiac Rehabilitation and the UNC Women’s Heart Program.
“They tend to be diagnosed less in the emergency rooms. We also present an hour later to the emergency room for our first heart attack because we don’t know the signs and symptoms.”
