Elaine Thorpe, MD, MPH
About
Elaine is from Arlington, Virginia and attended UVA for college where she earned a major in Political and Social Thought and a minor in Bioethics. As a medical student, she has become interested in Infectious Diseases and will graduate within the Global Health Distinction Track with a Certificate in Emerging Infectious Diseases and a master’s in public health. She has been interested in understanding the field of hospital epidemiology and her research work has focused on hand hygiene in healthcare workers and working with the Hospital Epidemiology group to decrease CLABSIs. She has a commitment to the underserved and works as the clinic coordinator at the Center for Worker Justice to help undocumented and migrant farm workers to connect to needed services. This work has also led to other service and leadership projects, such as a collaboration with community partners to start a pop-up health screening program. In her free time, Elaine enjoys podcasts, reading nonfiction, watching documentaries and hiking.
