Maria Sison, MD

About

Maria is from Virginia and attended Duke for college where she majored in Neurology. Maria has been interested in Geriatrics (her mom is also a Geriatrician!) and as a medical student is participating in the Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship Track at Duke. She has focused research on the perioperative optimization for older adults, improving postoperative care for older veterans, and markers of resilience in older adults undergoing total knee replacements. She is a leader for the Perioperative Optimization of Senior Healthcare Pals committee, helping to screen older veterans undergoing surgery to identify risk factors for higher resource needs after surgery. She has led as the president of the Geriatrics student interest group and completed her capstone project in Geriatric Medicine and also has worked as a teaching assistant for the Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship Seminar and serves as a member of the Mentorship Advisory committee for the school of medicine. In her spare time, Maria enjoys swing dancing and joined the Duke Swing Dance club in college and continues to not only dance but also teach and choreograph!
