NLR proteins have been demonstrated to be important in initiating immune responses against pathogens. Published in the June 24th issue of Immunity, researchers from the Jenny Ting Lab, and the Lineberger Cancer Center have identified how a subset of NLR proteins are also important in the down-regulation of the immune response once the pathogen has been eliminated .
