Steps for Promotion

Upon joining the OBGYN faculty, an introduction to the promotion process is facilitated by the faculty’s Division Director and the Vice Chair of Faculty Development, as needed.

  1. Faculty meets with Division Director and Chair (or designee) annually to obtain feedback on where they are on the promotion pathway and plan timeline activities. Respective Division Director serves as their faculty advisor to ensure that they have a good mentorship team
  2. Establish five-year timeline for promotion and document in IDP
  3. Keep CV updated
  4. Keep list of potential faculty letter writers
  5. One year before promotion process is started, CV presented at quarterly OBGYN Appointment and Promotion meeting for feedback from full Professors
  6. Division Director writes letter to Chair formally requests promotion, aligning with the appropriate track and focus, and distinctly highlighting how you have  “met the mark.”
  7. Upon receiving the Vice Chair of Faculty Development and Chair’s approval, the process advances. The department’s human resource consultant will guide the process by soliciting the candidate’s CV for review. Simultaneously, the candidate will be asked with furnishing the names of potential referees to provide letters of recommendation.
  8. Once the dossier is complete, the full professors in the department must vote on the dossier before it is reviewed by the appropriate APT committee.
