Our lab commits to undertaking cutting-edge research that will contribute to theoretical advances in our understanding of various diseases through the integration of medical imaging with genomics, metagenomics, and analytical chemistry. Dr. Zhu has a broad background in statistics, biostatistics, medical imaging, genetics/genomics, artificial intelligence, and computational neuroscience, with specific training and expertise in neuroimaging, genetic data analysis, big data integration and secondary data analysis on various diseases (e.g., Alzheimer, schizophrenia, and cancer). As a faculty member at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Dr. Zhu is the Biostatistics core director at the Biomedical Research Imaging Center and was PI of an NIH training grant on Mental Health Imaging and Genetics. Between 2018-2021, Dr. Zhu took a leave of absence from UNC-Chapel Hill and worked as a chief scientist in the AI-lab of DiDi Chuxing, which is a world ridesharing platform, and developed various artificial intelligence solutions for two-sided markets. As PI or co-PI on eight NSF-funded and NIH-funded grants, Dr. Zhu laid the groundwork for the proposed research by developing efficient statistical methods for jointly analyzing genetic/genomic, behavioral, clinical, and imaging data. Dr. Zhu has a demonstrated record of successful and productive research projects in biostatistics, medical imaging, genetics, artificial intelligence, and computational neuroscience.
