I am a developmental and translational neuroscientist and Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in the department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I am a Primary Member of the Neuroscience Center, investigator at the Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities (CIDD), and the Co-Director of the CIDD Clinical Trials Program. My lab integrates longitudinal MRI, genetics, and clinical assessment in infants to study the early onset of neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs). My lab has three primary aims: (1) To conduct longitudinal neuroimaging and deep phenotyping of infants to identify early biological markers and therapeutic targets for NDDs including: autism, Fragile X syndrome, and Angelman syndrome. (2) To reverse-translate these findings in children to mechanistic studies in animal models and in vitro cell models. (3) As Co-Director of the CIDD Clinical Trials Program, to forward-translate this research into clinical trials delivering novel therapeutics in children with NDDs.
