I focus on decreasing Black maternal mortality rates by diversifying the maternal workforce. Black women die at 3-4 times the rate of their white counterparts. Socioeconomic status and increased education levels do not change the statistic. The only common denominator is race. Alliance of Black Doulas for Black Mamas was created by Black women for Black women to mitigate racial disparities. This grant-funded program has removed all of the barriers to training for doulas and access to care for patients.
