Open Payments is a federal program that collects and makes information public about financial relationships between the health care industry, physicians, and teaching hospitals. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) collects information from manufacturers of drugs and devices about payments and other transfers of value they make to physicians and teaching hospitals. These payments and other transfers of value can be for many purposes, like research, consulting, travel, and gifts.

Physicians can preview the data before it is published online. In order to review the data and dispute inaccuracies, physicians must complete a two-phased registration process on CMS’s website.

This is a federal government website and process, so UNC cannot offer technical support. For registration help, call the CMS help-desk at 1-855-326-8366.

More information about Open Payments can be found on the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Website.
