Afsaneh Pirzadeh, MD, Associate Professor in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, has had her proposal accepted to implement a standardized care pathway for pediatric patient falling within the defined criteria for acute stroke has been selected for support through the IHQI Improvement Scholars Program for the period October 1, 2024 – September 30, 2025.

The purpose of Improvement Scholars is to develop clinical improvement leaders who will ultimately mentor others to improve care and outcomes. Scholars are selected based on the strength of proposals to improve clinical care and outcomes for a population of patients by implementing proven and/or expert-recommended strategies and approaches.

IHQI’s Improvement Scholar Program (ISP) is a structured, experiential learning program guiding scholars in developing clinical improvement leadership skills by proposing, designing and leading a project with guidance and support from experienced clinical improvement leaders. Improvement Scholars receive training, mentorship and guidance from IHQI faculty coaches as well as half-time support of an IHQI project manager for 12 months. As a foundational improvement practice is to share what is learned when improving with other Scholars present project results at the annual IHQI Improvement Scholars Symposium and are expected to publish project results in an academic or professional journal.
