A new study shows how broadly the COVID-19 pandemic caused disruptions for working parents who experienced difficulties finding childcare, especially parents of children who have special healthcare needs. Dr. Marszal joined the Division of General Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine as faculty on December 1, 2021. She received her BS in Biological Sciences from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL in 2009 and her medical degree from George Washington University in 2016. She also holds a MA in Medical Science from Boston University School of Medicine awarded in 2012. Dr. Marszal completed her pediatric residency at the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago in 2019. She has recently completed a fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, OH. Welcome Lindsay!
Dr. Weiss joined the Division of General Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine as faculty on October 18, 2021. Dr. Weiss received her BS in Biology from Florida Mechanical and Agricultural University in 2011 and her medical degree from Duke University in 2015. She completed her pediatric residency at Emory in 2019 and went on to complete a Master of Health Science through the Yale National Clinician Scholar Program in June 2021. Welcome Jasmine!
Dr. Baum joined the Department of Pediatrics as faculty in the Division of General Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine on September 13, 2021. Dr. Wood received a BS inBiochemistry from Pennsylvania State University in 1992 and received her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1996. She most recently was appointed as a Clinical Associate Professor at the Ohio State University.
Neal deJong, MD, MPH was promoted to Associate Professor of Pediatrics effective August 1, 2021. Dr. deJong has been a faculty member in General Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine since 2015
“This summer, we’ve seen RSV and another virus called parainfluenza. Both of those are having a spike at our hospital right now,” explained Dr. Michael Steiner, the pediatrician in chief at UNC Children’s. “We think this is, in part, related to the fact that through the winter season people were socially distancing, and spacing, and wearing masks, and the viruses didn’t have their usual time where they peak.”
