Welcome New Physician Faculty: Kayce Brantham, MD

Kayce Brantham, MD joined the Pediatric Division of Hospital Pediatric Medicine on July 1, 2024. She received her BS from East Carolina University in 2010 and her medical degree from the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in 2015. Dr. Brantham completed her pediatric residency at the Carolinas Medical Center, Levine Children’s Hospital in 2018. She was most recently with the HCA Virginia Healthcare System, Chippenham Hospital as a Pediatric Hospitalist. Welcome Kayce!

Ashley, a Nurse Practitioner in the UNC Hospitals Newborn Nursery, is Leading the Way by ensuring that our tiniest patients receive exceptional Carolina Care. Her dedication to providing the highest quality of care has led her to spearhead several projects aimed at standardizing care, resulting in enhanced patient outcomes and streamlined workflows for her teammates.

Lewis to Join Physician Advisor Team for Care Management at UNC

Beginning January 1, 2025, Dr. Emilee Lewis, Associate Professor in Hospital Pediatrics, will be joining the physician advisor team for Care Management at UNC Hospitals.
Dr. Lewis has been a faculty member in Pediatrics since 2019. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Lewis is the medical director of the Children’s Short Stay Unit. She also has medical director experience overseeing the prior inpatient pediatrics team at Rex Hospitals.

Lewis Promoted to Associate Professor of Pediatrics

Emilee Lewis, MD was promoted to Associate Professor of Pediatrics effective March 1, 2024. Dr. Lewis has been a faculty member in Pediatrics since 2019. Dr. Lewis received a BS in Biology from UNC Chapel Hill in 2008 and received her medical degree from UNC Chapel Hill School of Medicine in 2012. She completed her Pediatric residency at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC in 2015. Subsequently, Dr. Lewis was an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Connecticut, School of Medicine and served as a Pediatric Hospitalist at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford, CT.

Lawrence and Jain Named Co-Associate Chairs for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

We are pleased to announce that, Dr. Christian Lawrence, Assistant Professor in Hospital Pediatrics, and Dr. Nina Jain, Professor in Endocrinology, began their service as Co-Associate Chairs for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion on January 1, 2024. Christian and Nina will bring their unique experiences, energy, and commitment to bear in supporting the department’s goals. We are excited to work with both of these exceptional faculty members in this important role for the Department of Pediatrics.

Jordan, Taylor & Ahuja Awarded 2024 AAMC Leadership Development Seminar Grants

Katie Jordan, MD, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, Genny Taylor, MD, Assistant Professor in the Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, and Arshiya Ahuja, MD, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Hospital Pediatrics, were recently selected to receive grants to participate in the 2024 AAMC Early-Career Women Faculty Leadership Development Seminar.

Weinberg Promoted to Associate Professor of Pediatrics

Steven Weinberg, MD was promoted to Associate Professor of Pediatrics effective October 1, 2023. Dr. Weinberg has been a faculty member in Pediatrics since 2019. Dr. Weinberg serves as a Pediatric hospitalist providing direct patient care to inpatient pediatric patients on the PMB, Pediatric BMT and Newborn nursery services as well as coverage of pediatric admissions and transfers including supervision of residents.
