Kihlstrom and McNeal-Trice Receive Denny, Simon, Tingelstad Academic Service Award

Meg Kihlstrom, MD, Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Critical Care Medicine, and Kenya McNeal-Trice, MD, Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Hospital Pediatrics, have been awarded the Denny, Simon, Tingelstad Academic Service Award from the North Carolina Pediatric Society in recognition of their work with the Pediatric Residency Program at UNC.

Sutton and Team Author Paper on Successes in Improving Patient Transfer Process

Ashely Sutton, MD, Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine, with a team of from across the UNC Children’s Hospital has recently published Systematic Improvement in the Patient Transfer Process to a Tertiary Care Children’s Hospital in Hospital Pediatrics. This study shares the efforts to improve the operational efficiency of communicating with outside physicians or APPs who need to transfer patients to UNC Children’s.

Fuchs and Hoekstra Awarded DEI Mini Grant

Welcome New Physician Faculty: Kelley Ward, MD

Dr. Kelley Ward joined the Division of Hospital Pediatrics as Adjunct Faculty on March 3, 2022.  She received her BS in Biochemestry from the University of Florida in 2012 and her medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine in 2016. Dr. Ward completed her pediatric residency at the UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital in 2019. She was most recently with AdventHealth Ocala where she was a Pediatric Hospitalist. Welcome Kelley!

Welcome New Physician Faculty: Adriana Herrera, MD, MPH

October 18, 2021

Dr. Herrera joined the Division of Hospital Pediatrics as faculty on October 18, 2021. Dr. Herrera completed her medical degree at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago in 2013, where she also earn her MPH from the University of Illinois School of Public Health. Dr. Herrera completed her pediatric and internal medicine residency at the University of Illinois Hospital in Chicago in 2017 and went on to complete a fellowship in global health at the University of Florida, Port au Prince, Haiti in 2018. Dr. Herrera currently serves as a pediatric hospitalist at Kapi’Olani Medical Center for Women and Children in Honolulu, Hawaii. Welcome Adriana!

Welcome New Clinical Provider: Lindsay E. Mize, RN, MSN, CPNP

September 20, 2021

Lindsay Mize joined the Division of Hospital Pediatrics on September 20th. Ms. Mize received her BSN from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2007 and stayed on to complete her MSN in 2008. Since 2010, she has worked at the Duke University Medical Center, first in Pediatric Hematology & Oncology and then in the Valvano Day Hospital. Welcome Lindsay!

Welcome New Physician Faculty: Arshiya Ahuja, MD

Dr. Ahuja joined the Department of Pediatrics as faculty in Hospital Pediatrics on July 12, 2021. Dr. Ahuja completed her Pediatric residency at Loyola University in June 2014 and a fellowship in Global Clinical Education at Massachusetts General Hospital in 2015. Most recently, Dr. Ahuja has served as a Pediatric Hospitalist at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ.
