Welcome to the Program on Integrative Medicine

Integrative Medicine combines conventional medicine with complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), including mind-body-spirit approaches to health and healing, so patients receive a more comprehensive and holistic approach to their health care.

UNC Program on Integrative Medicine (PIM) is the UNC epicenter for research and education in complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) and integrative healthcare (CIH).  It is housed at the School of Medicine’s Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department. PIM’s mission is to implement evidence-based education and research activities in complementary and alternative therapeutic modalities and integrative health care, as well as to stimulate and inform the integration of effective therapies into clinical practice.  The Program on Integrative Medicine/PM&R is nationally recognized for research, education, and research-training related to complementary and integrative medicine. PIM faculty, staff and affiliates are experienced in NIH-supported research and well as DoD-supported research, including clinical trials. PIM has access to excellent research facilities and research-support services.  PIM is funded through the state of North Carolina as well as federal and private foundation grants.
