Dr. Gettings is an Assistant Professor at UNC with joint appointments in the Departments of Psychiatry and Emergency Medicine. Dr. Gettings joined the Center for Excellence in Community Mental Health after spending time working as an inpatient psychiatrist at Central Regional Hospital in Butner, NC where he focused his clinical efforts managing individuals with chronic and persistent mental illness. In addition to his work in the Department of Psychiatry, Dr. Gettings is also a faculty member in the Department of Emergency Medicine, where he helps manage a large multidisciplinary team who provide care for adults and pediatric patients in acute crisis. Dr. Gettings is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He received his undergraduate degree in Biology from Pepperdine University and his Medical Degree from the George Washington University in Washington DC. Dr. Gettings completed a psychiatry residency at UNC School of Medicine, where he was involved in medical student education and enjoyed treating patients with severe and persistent mental illness and substance use disorders.
