In January 2017, the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research (BRIMR) reported that the national ranking of NIH funding for UNC’s Department of Radiology in 2016 rose significantly, from 25th ($5,305,177) in 2015, to 13th ($8,699,480), amongst all academic medical center-affiliated departments of radiology nationwide.
In March 2017, Interventional Radiology Program Director and Associate Professor of Radiology Dr. Robert G. Dixon was amongst 32 new Fellows who were inducted at SIR’s 2017 Annual Scientific Meeting in Washington, DC.
In April 2017, Director of Quality and Safety and Professor of Radiology Dr. Valerie Jewells was inducted as one of only three new Fellows of the American Osteopathic College of Radiology (AOCR) at its 2017 Annual Convention in Las Vegas, NV.
In spring 2017, GME Director and Associate Professor of Radiology Dr. Sheri Jordan was inducted into UNC School of Medicine (SOM)’s chapter of Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society as one of only three UNC faculty members distinctively selected as AOA members as a UNC SOM alumnus.
In May 2017, Immediate Past Chair and Professor Emeritus Department Dr. Joseph KT Lee was the honoree of the first-ever Roentgen Fund Honorary Lecture at the 2017 Annual American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS) Meeting in New Orleans, LA.
In March 2017, Director of Faculty Development for Basic Science and Professor of Radiology Dr. Dinggang Shen was inducted into the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE)’s College of Fellows at its 2017 Annual Meeting at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, DC.
We are pleased to report another busy and successful academic year for our residency program, and we’re grateful to our ever-broadening base of engaged and supportive faculty.
