Important To-Dos

During Orientation

When you receive your iPad, there are several actions you need to take immediately upon receipt at the tech support desk.

  • Check to verify all contents are in your iPad Kit. If there are any items missing at that time, please notify the tech support desk before signing off on receipt. We will not be responsible for missing items once you leave the desk.
  • Turn on your iPad and go through the setup process. When asked, you will temporarily use the UNC-Guest-PSK Wi-Fi to complete setup.
  • Once you have completed setup, your initial configuration will begin. Check that the apps shown below have installed or begin to install. This will mean your iPad is good to go!
  • Follow the steps at https://wifi.unc.edu to switch from the guest network to eduroam. Failure to do so will result in connection problems (due to limited access provided on the guest network), and eventually complete disconnection from the network when the passphrase changes for the fall semester.

After Pickup

  • The items below should be done as soon as possible from home OR on campus after the first day of orientation using the eduroam network. To prevent congestion on the campus network, please do not do the following immediately after getting your iPad.
  • Adjust your time settings to Eastern: The iPad will default to Pacific time zone
  • Login to your Apple ID: You can use your existing Apple ID or create a new one to use with your iPad.
  • Explore the Self Service offerings: While you have access to the App Store to download apps you would like, the Self Service app also has several apps provided by UNC that you may find useful during your studies.
  • Review the iPad Support Page on the Student Tech Guide: You’re here already! Keep going!

Help!

  • Student iPads: If you have problems with your iPad or have questions, enter a ticket with the Academic Technology Services team. You can also call our hotline at 919-843-9086.
  • General IT: For other general tech support questions, you can contact the Help Desk by starting a chat or entering a ticket, calling 919-962-HELP, or visiting the new support bar on the second floor of Roper Hall once it opens. (Until Roper Hall opens, you may visit the existing Help Desk at MacNider Hall 137)
